I have been given this product as part of a product review through the Chronic Illness Bloggers network. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company.
I used to be a lotions and potions girl. When I first got married, we moved into a small apartment that only had a shower stall and a small vanity. I simply couldn’t fit all my items in the bathroom, and my poor husband had no where to put his shampoo and soap.
Fast forward 12 years, we have 4 kids… and still only one bathroom. Needless to say, my bath and body collection has diminished tremendously.
Not only do I not have the space, many products out there just don’t do what they say they will. My skin is still dry, I get a headache from the intense smell, my muscles still hurt or I’m no calmer or less anxious than when I started.
Knowing all this, you could say I’ve become a bit of a skeptic of lotions being helpful.
However, when I was offered an opportunity to review the Serenity Lotion from Fay Farms, I decided, sure why not?
The Serenity Lotion is used for stress and anxiety relief.
The ingredients are natural and best of all, pronounceable! Purified water, hemp oil, emulsifying wax, stearic acid, grape seed oil, magnesium, apricot kernel oil, jojoba oil, essential oils, argan oil, chamomile, green tea, oats, passionflower, skullcap, gluconolactone and sodium benzoate is all that is in this lotion! I can say every single one of those words and have a pretty good idea what they all are! I love it!
It has magnesium, which is so helpful for tension and stress relief. Studies show that many people are either deficient in or living with sub-optimal levels of magnesium.
The instructions are simple. First, on a scale of 1 to 10, (1 the lowest, 10 the highest) decide what your current anxiety/stress level is. Then apply the lotion to your neck around your lymph nodes, your abdomen, your feet and put socks on. Wait 5 minutes and re-evaluate your anxiety/stress level.
Ok I thought, sounds good. It is summer time and I have my 4 boys home with me. Do I have stress and anxiety?
I’ll be honest, remember how earlier I said I’ve become a skeptic? Well, I wasn’t expecting too much.
One afternoon, I decided I was at about a 7-8 stress level. I put the lotion on my neck and belly. I decided to grab some of my favorite socks and rub the lotion on my feet as I know rubbing essential oils on my soles helps tremendously. Then I sat on my bed and read a couple blog articles.
I immediately loved the scent. It is not super intense, but enough to smell really fresh and clean.
Before I was done reading the first article, I realized I as feeling pretty relaxed. In fact, I was feeling really… calm.
Not only did it work quite fast, it kept me relaxed for a good hour or so.
However, along with being a skeptic, I’m a big believer in the placebo effect (if someone tells you a treatment will work, you believe it so much, you feel it has helped regardless of whether it actually does). This lotion says it will calm me down, and I believe it will.
I simply had to try it again.
The second time I tried it was right before bed. I live in Alaska, and the summer time is brutal for falling asleep. The sun is always out, it feels like 4:00 in the afternoon at midnight. I also tend to get stressed at bedtime… remember those 4 boys I mentioned?
Once my husband and I got the boys to bed I placed my stress level at a 10.
I put the lotion on my neck, belly and feet again. This time I got in bed. Normally, it takes me an hour or longer to relax and fall asleep. Even once I get to sleep I’m up and down all night. But this night was different. I fell asleep quickly. Not only that, but I slept a good 5 hours before waking (usually I’m lucky to sleep 2).
When I woke up the next morning, I felt much more… rested and content.
Needless to say, for close to three weeks now, I have been applying this lotion at bedtime and at least once during the day. I am sold!
I will be buying more when I am done with this bottle.
