Do you remember the Corey Hart song, “I Wear My Sunglasses at Night”?
I’m not sure what the motivation for that song was, but for me, a long time migraine sufferer, it resonates loud and clear.
In fact, there are times I walk into my kid’s school with my sunglasses on because I can’t stand the fluorescent lights in every commercial building!
I always get a few looks, I imagine some feel I am being incredibly rude by not taking them off, or perhaps some think I am trying to hide something (I tend to wear the really big ones for maximum coverage). Either way, I still do it because, on headache days, it helps.
For years, I have been looking for another way to protect my eyes from the lights, by not always having to wear my huge dark sunglasses.
Thankfully, with the help of the Chronic Illness Bloggers Network, I was introduced to and given the chance to review the Axon Optics Migraine Glasses.
What Are Axon Optics Migraine Glasses?
There are a few migraine glasses out there. However, not all of them are created equal.
Axon Optics migraine glasses were designed by a team including a neuro-ophthalmologist, photonics researcher and ophthalmic entrepreneur who came together to find a way to help people with photosensitive migraines find relief.
Dr. Bradley Katz has been treating light sensitive patients since 1995. When not working with patients, he is researching how and why light causes pain and has been featured in many peer-reviewed publications and speaking engagements. To me, this means he is honestly concerned about the people purchasing these glasses.
The team that created these glasses understand that light sensitivity is a real problem for many people.
The glasses are very fashionable.
They offer a wrap style frame that is great for those who are very light sensitive and a more traditional frame that works well for those not as sensitive.
The lens is made of a therapeutic FL-41 lens, that blocks the distressing portion of the light spectrum.
In addition, you can add a prescription to any frame and they have “fit-over” prescription frames available.
They also offer glasses to fit men, women, and children and offer a variety of colors and styles.
The pair I picked out are one of the wrap around types, and in my opinion super cool! Can I make a confession? Sometimes I wear them even when my head doesn’t hurt because I like them so much.
How They Help
You may be wondering why you need “special migraine glasses” when your regular sunglasses seem to work pretty well.
When you wear regular sunglasses, the lenses only make the colors in the spectrum dimmer. As a result, you (myself included) need to wear incredibly dark lenses to achieve the desired effect. Once you take those dark glasses off, the light is blinding and makes the pain worse.
Axon optics lenses help people with light sensitivity by blocking the portion of the visible spectrum that is irritating.
Why You Need Them
As migraine sufferers, there are many things we have in our bag of tricks. For me, many are medications of some type.
I wanted to try these because I love finding real relief from non-medicinal items that will not have a direct effect on my body.
Not to mention, they look cool!
How to Get Them
